How would you classify your music? You seem to draw heavily from Science Fiction themes….

Alternative Metal seems to fit best. The core of the sound is a blend of hard rock and metal, but our influences range widely across multiple genres. The overall aesthetic is certainly colored by our love of science fiction.

Who are your top 5 musical influences?

These can change depending on various factors. Pantera and Metallica are part of our heavy metal foundation while bands like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden provide more of an alternative influence. Nine Inch Nails, including its electronic and industrial elements, typically makes the list as well.

Can you tell us about the origins of your new single and video Swarm?

“Swarm” was written as an ironic ode to the blissfully ignorant. Although initially focused on more general facets of everyday life, it’s hard to ignore the song’s larger implications with everything currently happening throughout the world. We met the video’s director, Lubomir Atan, online and were drawn to his work. After a few conversations, we clearly agreed about the video treatment and what we wanted to convey. He did a fantastic job of helping us visualize he song and was great to work with.

When did you know you were destined for a career in music?

Music is where each of us feels the most at home. It can be a difficult industry, and nothing is guaranteed — but we’re doing our best to turn the dream of a lengthy career into a reality.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

It’s difficult to choose just one, since there have been so many exceptional live experiences. Performances from Meshuggah and the Grateful Dead come to mind, but I have thoroughly enjoyed numerous others. With respect to playing live, the interaction and feeling from the crowd is something that cannot be duplicated on any other level. We feed off the energy they give back.

What do you want fans to take away from your music?

The work is meant to be a source of entertainment, catharsis, and camaraderie. We hope fans think of ZT as a band that produces emotionally charged music and performances with a thoughtful and creative spin.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown?

Collectively, much of our current predicament is an example of our failure to adapt and prepare for the inevitable. Moreover, our inability to more authentically communicate continues to stifle the true potential we possess. Our approach as a band is to adopt a realistic and constructive approach whenever possible. Interestingly, we continue to write and produce music in much the same way as before, but touring and the live experience now present a serious challenge. We hope that changes early in 2021, once a vaccine for Covid-19 is (hopefully) widely available. We really want to play live again, but we want everyone to be safe as well.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

Trent Reznor would be the top choice here. We’re fans of virtually everything he’s done.

When you are not writing and playing music, what do you like to do in your down time?

Each of us have passions or hobbies outside of music, including family time, hiking, lifting weights, craft beers and spirits, philosophy, video games. As mentioned earlier — we’re really into Science Fiction and Fantasy in all forms of media.

What’s next for you — do you know when you will have your next release ready to go?

Yes, we’ll be releasing another single shortly for THE KILLING II, followed by the full EP later this year.
