“Trouble,” a new single from 18-year-old singer/songwriter Ashley Suppa, is worth a listen even if Pop music isn’t something you normally go for. Suppa’s voice is powerful and beautiful, and it carries this track effortlessly. The music has a fun, funky feel to it, flirting with older styles while remaining modern.

“Trouble” starts off slow for a second, making it feel like it’s going to be a sad sort of song. The first thing that grabbed me was Suppa’s vocalization, even if it wasn’t quite hooked into the composition at first. However when the beat pops in the song really begins to come alive. The lyrics invite a lover to come back and “cause a little trouble.” It speaks to young love in a relatable way, conjuring images of late nights full of teenage lust and silly memories of causing trouble just for fun. It’s really catchy and is impeccably composed. While “Trouble” has a retro-yet-modern sound , it doesn’t sound like a literal copy of the music of the past. The references to her influences, like David Bowie, Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa, and the 1975, are there, but the sound is fresh and wholly her own. The song doesn’t have that auto-tuned, over-stylized sound like a lot of recent Pop music, which allows Suppa’s voice to be properly showcased.

Ashley Suppa has been involved with music almost her entire life. Her first musical experience was at the very young age of 6, being picked to sing backing vocals for renowned guitarist Ace Frehley’s (of KISS) album “Anomaly”. By age 12 she was learning bass and taking vocal lessons, and by 15 she was writing her own songs and recording herself onto her laptop. Grammy-Nominated Producer Alex Salzman recognized her talent and immediately began working with her on a debut album. She has a strong passion for her music and her new single shows that off. At only 18, she has a successful music career ahead of her if she continues writing tunes such as “Trouble.”

If you’re looking for something to put on your summer or car playlist, I would definitely add “Trouble” to it. It’s infectious and fun and is sure to become a car karaoke favorite. Suppa could inject something fresh into the current Pop climate. She already has fans noticing her immense talent. She has thousands of followers on Instagram and almost 12K followers on TikTok. She already has a leg up in one of the biggest battles; getting people to listen to your music and connect with you. Being accessible to your fans, especially on social media, is important if you want to be successful in the music industry today.

“Trouble” shows off what Ashley Suppa is can do, and I don’t think it’ll be long before she gains more and more fans. Her voice is so beautiful and distinct, she has the passion and the focus, and she’s able to draw from her influences while staying true to her own sound. She’s an artist we will hear more from, and she’s someone to watch out for.
