In a time when country music seems to sound the same, an assembly line of songs about trucks, fishing and drinking beers, it’s a refreshing thing to hear a unique perspective. The song “Come And Getcha Some” from Charlie Kulis Band features some familiar scenes, but they present it in a refreshing new way. Sounding like a band that could play its way across the globe and still find time to make each audience feel special, Charlie Kulis Band cranks out an unforgettable tune.

The teasing guitar, a ruffled rhythm section and a lead singer that could bring a pack of strangers together to make them feel like family, “Come And Getcha Some” reminds the listener that any time music, friends, and food is around — life’s party is open to everyone. The guitar is light, almost transformative to twangy resonance. To me, the guitar captures the spirit of the song, but the drums and bass are the song’s soul. And this song has a lot of tones and vibes that capture an outdoor lifestyle. One doesn’t have to be a country fan or outdoorsmen to appreciate the moves this song creates this charming corner to the American experience. It might feel like walking into Cracker Barrel at first, or the perfect song for a Fourth of July cookout, but after a few listens it occurred to me that this song isn’t about things, it’s about people and connections. It’s about going out and getting what makes you happy in life and that means being around people, soaking up the sun.

I think it could also help to listen to this song on a Monday morning. For any sales people out there that are ready to take on the world, the anthem ‘come and getcha some’ fits perfectly to motivate and dominate. The same could be said for the sports fans and weekend warriors trying to push their limitations, pack in the most reps or run faster — come and getcha some, they may dare themselves. In my mind, these words are the same as saying ‘bring it on’ and “I want in on all that action’.

Unless you’re a wallflower, and that’s okay if you are, this is a song that stirs the juices, gets your mind racing and your heart pumping faster. It’s also a song, like Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Fishin’ In The Dark” that sends shockwaves of memories and hopes all into one. “Come And Getcha Some” is meant for singing along loud and proud. Summer’s back Georgia down to Texas, the lead singer sings. He’s right, but summer is back everywhere too, and soon this will be the soundtrack and atop many playlists to mark the occasion. No matter the season, though, songs like “Come And Getcha Some” have that timeless (and effortless) way of making us listeners feel happy and awash in life’s troubles the second that first lick starts. Just folks playing what they love, the singer continues. Yes, it’s all about love and being together.
