REVIEW: More than Words — “Heaven Is A Place Like This” (SINGLE)
Have you ever loved someone so much that you could compare? That the thought of heaven or paradise wouldn’t match up to being in this person’s life? I’ve been there — even willing to watch paint dry to be next to my special someone. Even if you haven’t been head-over-heels in love, listening to the new song “Heaven Is A Place Like This” brings the truest sense of love to your ears. Sung by the dynamic trio, More Than Words, this family of singer/songwriters based in Germany, collects hues of country and pop music to create this lasting listening experience.

A resounding chorus: we don’t have to die to go to heaven moves the listener into an almost philosophical brainstorm. Death can be scary for some, or for many others, it’s in God’s hands. I didn’t find this song to be overtly religious, but I can see how it would be successful on Christian contemporary channels and playlists. The gist of the song is that life is so wonderful and so amazing with the other person in their life, not even heaven can compare. I like this take on what I can only imagine most people can assert to think about at least once in their life. What is the afterlife like? Where will I go — will I be happy? It’s clear from the song’s piano and dainty guitar, that all that matters is what’s happening in the now. Save talking about heaven for later, this is the life I choose and want. It’s a vibrant, immediate reaction when you hear their voices. They blow you away in a substantial way. I kept their voices in my head for hours and hours after each listen.
Besides the gorgeous piano bed, this song saunters around a steady percussion, as well as a pinch of country-flavored strings and riffs. I loved the ‘Nashville’ stamp this band puts on their songs. In previous tracks like “Home” (2020), More Than Words set forth to the States with a Music City inspired track. According to their press materials, daughter Johanna Mross became inspired by the American television series, Nashville. You can hear that American influence in this track. Mross, along with her mother Stephanie Hertel, and American father, Lanny Lanner (from Brooklyn, New York) formed the group. Just a few years later and the group is already touring with Bonnie Tyler (yes, that husky-voiced Bonnie Tyler who is the iconic voice behind “Total Eclipse of the Heart”) and the Gypsy Kings. More Than Words has an eclectic sound, and at their core is solid artistry and top-tier vocals.

“Heaven Is A Place Like This” is a genuine standout. More Than Words bring such natural talents to the stage and brighten the room. Even if this song were sung in German, I think American audiences would love what they hear. I’m always in search of a song that really moves me, that really stops me in my tracks and “Heaven Is A Place Like This” is a strong contender.
