The franchisee, whether the company we’re discussing is McDonalds or Great Clips among many others, is the cornerstone figure for many modern corporate structures. It is a system similar to the relationship between television networks and their affiliates, though naturally different in important respects. Greenberg commands immense respect thanks to his work as a public speaker, coach, and author who has worked with a variety of five star business giants such as RE/MAX, McDonalds’, and GNC, to name a few. and you can discern that confidence in his writing.

This isn’t a book you are likely to read unless you are a franchisee or aspire to be one. It is possible to appreciate his writing skills, though, and they are well-honed despite it not being his first language. He has learned how to incorporate an assortment of skills into a complete package and this, in part, explains his ongoing prominence in professional circles. He gets results. His matter of fact yet personable style gains a great deal of momentum thanks to incorporating dialogue and reminiscing on personal and professional experiences alike. There isn’t a lot of flash or flourish present in his writing; it’s meat and potatoes prose though never workmanlike in a dull lifeless way.
That’s no small achievement considering the subject matter. Greenberg has succeeded making a discussion about establishing and prospering at the head of a franchised business compelling reading thanks to his penchant for weaving his personality into the material and the plain-spoken manner of his presentation. His riffing throughout this book reminds you of his life as a public speaker.
There are several lists included in the book, but The Wealthy Franchisee doesn’t rely on them. Greenberg uses them as organizing devices for topics he wishes to cover, and they help clarify his thoughts for readers. The book’s structural design does as well. Breaking the book into three different sections has a psychological effect of making its contents seem less daunting and the chapter titles are direct in a way that precludes any surprises. The commitment and time he invested in this work is apparent from the outset.

It is longer than many non-fiction works, but don’t let the length intimidate you. His stylistic talents mentioned earlier in the book ensure the reading experience is light and breezy despite the nature of its subject matter. I expect Scott Greenberg will return at some point in the future with another book and let’s hope so — his comprehensive survey of what building and maintaining a successful franchise is a work wide in its scope that sets him apart as one of the leading business-focused authors.
